Dr. Hjorth is a creative and effective biological process development advisor with drive, initiative, persistence, strong problem solving ability, and 35 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He has excelled in challenging positions heading groups performing biological process improvement or development.

Dr. Hjorth is a recognized expert in vaccines development and commercializatino, particularly influenza. He led project team that produced the first worldwide H5 pandemic vaccine. This was recognized by Time Magazine as being the #1 medical breakthrough for 2007. He also developed influenza seed passage techniques that allowed great improvements in yields. These procedures were used to triple the yield of the H1N1 vaccine in 2009, surpassing work by all other companies worldwide. Improved inactivated influenza virus vaccine purity and yield by instituting twenty-two production improvements. These saved the company over $53 million in manufacturing costs.

Past experience includes:

  • Sanofi Pasteur Director of Viral Technology, Manufacturing Technology- 2006-2011, where he managed up to 50 full time employees and contractors performing development and validation activities
  • Sanofi Pasteur Principal Scientist where he helped to develop the first worldwide H5 pandemic vaccine
  • Wyeth Laboratories as Associate Director, Process Improvement-2000-2003; Manager, Process Improvement 1998-2000; Senior Scientist, Process Improvement 1996-1998
